ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival Managua

Upon arrival at airport in Nicaragua, you will be warmly met by a representative, who will
provide assistance and transfer to your accommodation to check-in.

Overnight: Managua

Day 2 Sand boarding

Activities:

  • The extreme sport, Volcano Boarding (Sand boarding), born in Nicaragua, is being
    offered at Cerro Negro active volcano. Accompanied by a Guide / Instructor you will
    climb Cerro Negro.
  • Upon arrival at the top you will receive a short exploratory tour of this young but
    impressive volcano. Standing on top of this volcano, you can enjoy a spellbinding
    view of the Los Maribios (a part of the volcanic chain). After a short technical
    training you will make a short test run inside the crater of Cerro Negro.
  • After an optional photo shoot, technical evaluation and possible additional training,
    you will make your way to the outer rim of the crater. After some final explanations
    you will Volcano Board all the way down to the base of Cerro Negro.
  • Transfer back to the colonial city of Leon.

Day 3 Telica Volcano Hike

Activities:

  • Another active volcano in Nicaragua is the Telica. The most recent and sudden
    eruption was in 1948, but have reported other less intense. Telica volcano is
    continuously emitting gas and ash and lava can be seen at the bottom of the crater.
    The area around the volcano suffers from volcanic activity. Accompanying the Telica
    are other craters and hot springs are believed to San Jacinto are connected to the
    volcano. With a height of 1.061 meters, Telica is not as high as San Cristobal, which
    makes the climb less difficult. The slopes are so steep nor so the difficulty of the
    climb lies in the path of travel.
  • There is no path to the foot of the volcano, so you have to walk a bit before you
    arrive. The surroundings are pretty dry and tropical settings.
  • Free afternoon to walk around and visit the main churches, the Cathedral (hike the
    tower to get an amazing view of the city and volcanoes), as well as a magnificent Art
    Gallery with painting from Europe and Central America, distributed in 2 colonial
    houses.

Day 4 Granada Colonial City & Night Tour Masaya Volcano

Activities:

  • Head southward to arrive at Granada, renowned as Nicaragua’s most charming
    colonial city.
  • Established in 1524, Granada is the oldest colonial city on the Isthmus. This heritage
    accentuates its beauty and charm manifolds. Nowadays, Granada is a charming town,
    Spanish-style houses where large wooden doors open onto chic interior patios.
    Though some buildings of the city are on the verge of collapse, many of them are
    refurbished. Some of these buildings now function as restaurants, hotels, or residential
    homes. You can enjoy the bird-watching view of the city from the top of the La
    Merced church.
  • Walk around the city and enjoy a delicious lunch on your own at “La Calzada”.
  • Around 4:00 pm depart to Masaya Volcano where you will watch parrots returning to
    their unusual home: Santiago’s active crater. Take a walk into the heart of the earth
    through lava tubes while three different species of bats fly over your head. Learn
    about the history, geology and ecology of this particular volcano.

Day 5 Mombacho Volcano Adventure (Canopy & Natural Reserve)

Activities:

  • The Mombacho volcano, situated only ten kilometres from Granada, is one of the
    largest in Nicaragua. The climb up the hill is an adventure on its own. The unbelievably
    steepness of the volcano guarantees a thrilling ride, even if it is your personal vehicle or truck
    you use. Next to the one lane road you will see coffee plantations, and then a cloud forest.
    From this point on, the view is magnificent.
  • Witness a magnificent view of the tropical forests surrounding Mombacho Volcano
    and take part in an exciting canopy zip line tour.
  • This tour is a combination of both Mombacho walking around the crater and Canopy with
    its 17 platforms – 3 Hanging Bridges – 10 Steel Cables with a height about 25 – 30 meters.

Day 6 Rincón de la Vieja

Activities:

  • After breakfast, transfer back Peñas Blancas (Costa Rica border).
  • Continue to Rincon de la Vieja National park.
  • The park gets its name after the active volcano Rincon de la Vieja. You’ll be able to
    reach numerous formations, craters and lagoons through horseback or foot. There are
    fumaroles, boiling mud pools, steam vents as well as sulfurous hot springs that have
    medicinal properties.
  • Optional Activities: Various optional tours are offered outside the park including canopy,
    horseback, hiking, and birding tours.

Overnight: Rincon de la Vieja – (B)

Day 7 Horseback ride

Activities:

● We have two rides. The first ride takes about 1:30 hours, the second one 2:30 hours
long, both through the dry forest and next to the beautiful Grand Canyon. The second
ride gives you the chance to enjoy a refreshing swim in the clear waters of the river.
Furthermore roamed the plains of grass and tropical dry forest.
● As part of our tour there are some viewpoints where visitors can admire the volcanos
Rincon de la Vieja, Tenorio and Miravalles, and hopefully enjoy wildlife in the area.
Optional Activities: Combined tours including rafting, canopy, horseback ride and/or rappel
& lunch are also available at extra cost.

Day 8 Arenal

Activities:

  • Today you will be picked up at your hotel and you will be provided with a shuttle bus
    transfer to the Arenal volcano area.
  • Arenal Volcano Hike & Tabacon Hot Springs.
  • late afternoon visit to the trails of El Silencio and the volcanic thermal mineral pools
    at Tabacon Hot Springs, where you can enjoy a healthy and relaxing soak and enjoy
    of a delicious dinner.

Day 9 Self-guided Arenal Hanging bridges

Activities:

  • You can enjoy adventure activities like hiking the 2 miles of interpretive loop trail,
    cross fifteen bridges, ranging from 16 to 330 feet long. These bridges are suspended
    on the primary rain forest. You can hire a professional guide or explore these
    exhilarating things yourself with a map.
  • Arenal Hanging Bridges is famous eco-tourist project of trails and bridges. The core
    objective of the project is to preserve and protect the Mother Nature. The private
    natural reserve, with almost 250 hectares of Tropical Rain Forest, possesses different
    species from the region.
  • The project has eight (8) stand bridges whose lengths oscillate between 8 and 22
    meters of length, as well as six (6) hanging bridges, of elegant design and great safety,
    built with the latest technique that have 48 and 98 meters of road between the towers.
